What are sick leave rules in private companies?

As my friend was sick and applied for 03 days sick leave with a medical certificate attached, but my boss has refused to grant medical leave on the ground that it was a policy of the company to approve the medical leaves only if an employees is hospitalized and that to only 4 to 5 days. Can you please throw some light on medical leave compliance?

Medical Leave is provided on the grounds of sickness/ accidents met by employees. Sick leaves are provided as per the labour laws. As these leaves are prone to misuse, employers usually seek a medical certificate in case the number of days of departure, at once, exceeds two or three.
